Singer Morrissey Comes to Kevin Spacey and Weinstein’s Defense

Singer Morrissey is the second to defend Kevin Spacey of sexual allegations. Two weeks ago, Gay Talese defended the disgraced actor and told his accusers to suck it up.

The singer and songwriter attracted controversy when he claimed that Kevin Spacey attack was unnecessary. Morrissey said that it was ridiculous that the allegations led to the removal of Spacey from major films.

Morrissey started by saying that ‘rape is disgusting, every attack is repugnant.’

The former member of ‘the Smiths’ said that sexual harassment and assault seem to have changed their definitions. He said that anyone who ever expressed their interest towards someone has suddenly become a ‘sexual harassment’ suspect.

The sexual assault allegations against Kevin Spacey unfolded last month when Anthony Rapp accused him (Spacey) of sexually harassing him (Rapp) three decades ago. Rapp told Buzzfeed that the 26 year old Spacey laid on him in his apartment. The actor, 14 years old then, alleged that Spacey was trying to seduce him to have sex.

Patrick Morrissey said that Rapp’s accusations towards Kevin Spacey ‘didn’t sound credible’ to him.

Spacey denied the allegations saying that he was ‘beyond horrified’ for being accused of an incident he barely remembered of.

While speaking to Germany’s Der Spiegel newspaper, the singer said that he has never been in a compromising situation.

“Never. I was always aware of what could happen. When you are in somebody’s bedroom, you have to be aware of where that can lead to,” he said.

When asked about the sexual harassment accusations against Harvey Weinstein, the singer expressed his doubts towards a large number of women who have come forward with sexual assault claims.

About the claims that Weinstein invited upcoming lady actors to his hotel rooms, Morrissey said that “people know exactly what’s going on, and they play along.”

According to the singer, the feeling of rejection and embarrassment afterward is what makes the ladies claim that they were attacked. He added that in case the arrangement went as planned, and the ‘victim’ lands a great career, no one would ever know about it.

Morrissey said that throughout music history, musicians have allegedly slept with teens. He, however, made it clear that he wasn’t among them.

“If you go through history, almost everyone is guilty of sleeping with minors. Why not throw everyone in jail right away?”

Morrissey feels that the likes of Spacey and Weinstein are accused unfairly of sexual harassment, how about you?
