After suffering four losses in a row, Argentina traveled to Ecuador on Tuesday night with only one goal, to win. However, their spirits were lowered with Ecuador scoring first in just 37 seconds of the match. The quick score might have demoralized Argentina in a way, but it didn’t do anything to the hat trick master, Lionel Messi, if anything, it revitalized and encouraged him to play harder.

Messi took it upon himself to save his team from losing a spot in the 2018 world cup in Russia and responded with two goals in the first half. The Ballon d’Or five-time winner finished with his hat trick in the second half leading his team to a 3-1 win and securing a berth at the world cup.

The decision to shoot every chance he gets paid off quite well. He had initially played more of a playmaker trying to get other teammates to score.

The first goal in the 12th minute of the match was a combination of Messi’s effort and Angel Di Maria’s, while the second one, just minutes after the first one, Messi capitalized on a mistake on the side of Ecuador’s defense.

After the third goal in the second half of the match, the entire Argentina bench was all up and celebrating. It was a sure trip to Russia. It was Messi’s day to shine as he scored all the three goals.
