Gay Conversion Therapy is Approved by Brazilian Judge

Gay conversion therapy has approved

A judge in Brazil has approved the use of gay conversion therapy, amid a furious backlash from the campaigners, and celebrities.

Homosexuality is considered as a disease. It was ruled by Federal Judge Waldemar de Carvalho. The federal council of psychology approved a resolution in 1999. It is to prohibit psychologists from treating homosexuality as a disease.

The council also said that “opens the dangerous possibility of the use of sexual reversion therapies.” The council chief told the Guardian, ‘it is not a serious, academic debate. It is the debate connected to religious or conservative positions.’

Most of the prominent Brazilians have also voiced their voice regarding the ruling. They all are for the opposition.

Toni Reis told reporters that the injunction was a step forward and he planned to appeal it at the Inter-American court of human rights. Toni Reis is the persons who head the national lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Alliance.

Homosexuality is not sickness:

Pop star Anitta wrote on Instagram: ‘people dying, hungry, the Government killing the country with corruption, no education, no hospitals, no opportunities… and the authorities are wasting their time to announce that homosexuality is a sickness.’

Another singer, Ivete Sangalo, said on social media, ‘the sick ones are those who believe in this great absurdity’

And also on social media, the hashtag #Cureagay was widely shared. There are spread of messages for supporting the community.
