Apple: “Yes, We are Slowing Down Older Phones”

Tech giant Apple, admits that has introduced a feature that deliberately slows down the older phone. The company admitted that the conspiracy is true, but said that it is doing so just to prevent sudden shutdowns of the devices.

In a statement given on Thursday, Apple said that it had used the software updates to limit the old phone’s performance and prevent them from unexpectedly breaking down earlier than they should.

The main cause for the iPhone’s shutdown is not the processor. Apple said that iPhone mobile phones shut down suddenly because of their old battery or the phone whose battery’s charge is low.

The feature was implemented last year on iPhone 6, iPhone 6S and SE during the software update. Apple says the feature will soon be rolled out to newer phones.

For some time now, customers have suspected that Apple slows down iPhone mobile phones as they age. But this is the first time the company has admitted to doing so. The company confirmed claims after John Poole, Primate Labs founder analyzed the performance of iPhone 6s and 7 over time.

The company says that its primary goal for the update is to enable their customers to use the phone for longer and not to encourage them to buy a new iPhone. They said that Lithium Ion batteries’ performance degrades with time and can cause the phone to shut down suddenly, hence the update.

Apple spokesperson said, “Our goal is to deliver the best experience for our customers, which includes overall performance and prolonging the life of their devices.”

When the phone’s battery is in poor condition, it may not be able to provide the required maximum user’s demand of the processor at full speed. In such a situation, the iPhone unexpectedly shuts down to prevent other components from either slowing down or stopping.

Not all Apple users received the news positively; some suggested switching to Apple’s rival company, Samsung.
